Dental crown
The natural crown is the part of the tooth that protrudes from the gum. If large parts of the natural tooth crown are missing due to an accident, decay or after root canal treatment, it is necessary to protect the tooth with an artificial crown. The natural tooth crown is prepared for this purpose. It is ground cylindrically all around. A concave step is created at the neck of the tooth. All in all, the tooth must be ground down so that there is enough space for the opposing bite. A special impression is taken so that a model of the tooth can be made in the dental laboratory and the crown can be fabricated. In the case of root canal-treated teeth, it is usually necessary for a post to be glued into the tooth. A temporary crown is inserted until the crown is completed.
There are different types of artificial dental crowns. There are metal-based crowns and crowns made of zirconium oxide that are veneered with ceramic, all-ceramic crowns and all-metal crowns. Whether it is necessary for you to have a crown made and which type of crown should be used in your case must be decided on an individual basis.
