Professional teeth cleaning

Professional teeth cleaning is an important part of prophylaxis, which is carried out in the dental practice and can prevent diseases of the teeth and the periodontium. The teeth are cleaned mechanically, which is more intensive than cleaning at home.

Food intake causes a biofilm called plaque to form on the teeth. It consists of various bacteria that metabolize carbohydrates and excrete acids. This can cause damage to the teeth and inflammation of the gums. When cleaning teeth at home, it is often not possible to reach all interdental spaces and niches in the oral cavity.

It is therefore advisable to have your teeth professionally cleaned regularly. The frequency depends on the accompanying diseases. In the case of high caries activity or periodontal disease, a 3-monthly rhythm may be recommended, but a 6 to 12-month rhythm is usually advisable. Various studies have shown that regular professional tooth cleaning reduces the risk of periodontitis and caries.

During professional teeth cleaning, your teeth will first be stained to show you where plaque is still present and how you can improve your oral hygiene. You will be shown a number of tools specially designed for you and your brushing technique will be discussed again. Tartar and calculus (calculus under the gums) will be carefully removed. The teeth are cleaned with a fine powder to remove all plaque and discoloration. The teeth are then polished and a fluoride treatment is applied to strengthen the enamel.

We offer you 3 different variants. In the first variant, a fluoride gel is applied, in the second variant a fluoride varnish is applied, the effect of which lasts longer, and in the third variant a saliva test is carried out in addition to the fluoride varnish in order to determine your caries risk.
