Teeth grinding
Teeth grinding is also known as bruxism and refers to the (usually unconscious) grinding and clenching of the teeth at night and during the day. It leads to increased tooth wear, a heavy strain on the periodontium, the muscles and the temporomandibular joint. It can even lead to severe pain syndromes and ringing in the ears (tinnitus), which is then referred to as craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD).
To stop the wear of the teeth, a bite splint can be made, which also leads to a relaxation of the muscles and the jaw joints. In some cases, physiotherapy is also recommended.
